Hayes in Fredericksburg and Richmond, Va., while serving in the Confederate States Subsistence Department, concerning acquisition and loss of food sources, especially cattle. Also includes scattered copies of letters by Commissary General Lucius Bellinger Northrop and Brigadier General Joseph Reid Anderson concerning supplies and stores. Also includes children's letters to family members, poetry and practice cursive writing by John S. Hayes' two nieces, Anne Somerville (Hayes) Eaches and Etta Brockenbrough (Hayes) Wight.
